outnumbered?

Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell face down on the ground.

(1 Samuel 17:49 NIV)

Have you ever felt outnumbered?

I remember being at an event earlier this year. For the first time in a long time, I felt small. I felt out of my league. I felt outnumbered. I know we all like to say numbers don't matter. But they do. They count when you're pumping gas, shopping, paying your rent, running a fever, standing on a scale, purchasing a house, or looking at your credit score. Numbers matter. I felt like my numbers weren't adding up at that moment. God's response to me was, "stop reaching for the crown and reach for your stone."

I was then reminded of Saul and David's battle with Goliath. Saul was a King. Saul had power, positioning, followers, and influence with his crown. The numbers were seemingly in his favor. Yet, with all of that, Saul was no match against Goliath. Then David showed up with less experience, less money, less support, less influence, and less power. Yet, he was able to defeat Goliath with a stone. Why? Because while David had fewer resources, he had more confidence in himself and what God could do through him. David later received a crown, but it all started with a stone. I wanted to say that David had high self-esteem, but really David had High-God Esteem. He was highly confident that God would position him to do more, even with less.

You may feel like you don't have enough time, followers, engagement, money, friends, or experience to make a difference. I know the feeling can be crippling. For example, my husband loves to window shop. He loves to look at homes I feel we can't afford. I wouldn't go with him for years because I never wanted to see something I couldn't buy. When we feel like the numbers don't add up, we think we can't move up. When I started to trust God more, I began to dream more, and I no longer saw it as window shopping but as vision casting. When we count ourselves out, we miss out on opportunities for God to show us what can be done with the stone.

Where am I going with this? Yes, the numbers matter, but what matters more than anything is what's powered behind those numbers. When the Holy Spirit is powered behind your one stone, you will have more impact than a king with a whole army. Unfortunately, sometimes we are more confident in the crown than in God. Perhaps, this is why God allowed David to win from what looked like the bottom. Maybe, God was sending a message to all of us that He can do anything with anyone and any-ONE.

Who is the one person God has placed on your heart, the one thing you can do right now, or the one business you can invest in? Reach for your stONE.

Reach for the thing that God has given you in this season. Dismantle your giants one blog, one post, one prayer, one dream, one book, one business, one person, one stone at a time. You may not have all the numbers backing you right now, but if the Power of God is behind you, the numbers will come, and the giants will fall.

Happy June! It's my birthday month, and I'm slinging stones all month. Will you join me?
